This project was a modern double storey, wrap-around extension to add extra living space to this client’s family home in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. A wrap-around extension is a great way to add more room to your Buckinghamshire property without extending far out into your garden space or having to move house!
The extension space we designed and built for this family is ideal for them and the perfect solution for their requirements.
We fully managed and delivered this Milton Keynes based extension and garden transformation. To accompany the new extension for this Milton Keynes home, we also carried out garden groundworks and landscaping work to help fully transform this client’s outdoor living space into a picturesque and tranquil garden to enjoy year-round.
Redesigning the garden included digging up the back garden and adding new turf, fencing, the installation of a gate, new paving, and sleepers. Another aspect of this project was carrying out refurbishments to the old house and making sure it was fully gutted.
From start to finish, our team here at Hickford Construction organised and managed all the trades involved in the extension, groundworks and garden landscaping of this project. We managed and organised trades such as new plumbing and electrics, windows, doors, plastering, roofing, guttering, fascias and soffits. By managing this for our client, it ensured that the extension build and garden landscaping ran smoothly, and our client was happy with the end result.
Hickford Construction designed and built a bespoke extension for this Milton Keynes based house, as well as redesigned the garden space. To begin with, we carried out preparing the foundations and groundwork for the extension, followed by laying oversite concrete to help keep out moisture and create an even and firm surface before the placement of the next layer.
When the foundation groundwork was completed, we then began a vital part to help stabilise the building by laying substructure brickwork. This stage involves constructing the brickwork at below ground height and foundation level to give the structure strength. After this, we constructed a timber roof, and started preparing the window measurements as well as fitted the roof tiles.
When the roofing was complete, we were able to fit the windows and carry out the first fix of electrics and plumbing. The initial plumbing stage consisted of installing essential pipework for water and/ or gas supply, waste and water drainage. Whilst the first fix electrics involved the installation of electrical cables.
We then moved on to plastering the extension; first with plasterboards and then skimming over with plaster. With the walls prepped and ready for painting, we then moved on to installing floor screeds. Floor screeds give the flooring of an extension a smooth and level finish, meaning that the chosen flooring could be placed on top. After the flooring and walls were completed, we then carried out the second fix of electrics and plumbing. This involved connecting electrical fixtures such as lighting and appliances to the cables, and connecting the sinks and baths to the pipes.
The final stages of this Milton Keynes extension project included the installation of woodwork, and finishing off with the painting and decorating. After the extension was completed, we then moved on to the second phase of the project: redesigning the garden. To start with, we dug out the back garden, carrying out the necessary groundwork foundation before fully transforming the garden space to the client’s brief.
