Modern homes are aesthetically pleasing to look at. They’re bright, airy and it can increase the value of your home as they’re appealing to potential buyers.
For our Milton Keynes based client, they were looking for exactly that: a complete house modernisation, as well as extending the space through increasing the size of their kitchen and adding an additional bedroom above.
Open plan living is an increasingly popular option for the 21st Century home. By extending a kitchen to also accommodate dining and lounge space, it provides so many benefits - such as being able to watch over young children play or help older kids with their homework as you cook or clean. Furthermore, open plan living space means you’re only heating one room as opposed to several. This means the room will get warm quicker and cost you less.
This house modernisation and extension project in Milton Keynes began with the removal and demolition of existing internal and external walls (structural steel was installed for support), removal of the existing kitchen and the conservatory.
Then started the foundational work which included digging 12 x 300mm mini piles with associated ground beams. This enabled our team to be able to create the extension.
When the outline had been set, we could then begin work on the standard block and beam flooring as well as the brickwork laying up to DPC (damp proof course). We also completed external and internal blockwork installation to the main house and single storey extension.
We also protected the existing garden and driveway.
After the foundations had been prepared, we then began on the roof structure, installing insulation as well as adding eaves detail and completing the finishing to match the existing house.
Then we started on installing the first floor timbers with insulation and added the flooring.
This project required a full revamp of the existing windows and doors. We installed brand new brand new replacement doors and windows:
We moved on to plastering the extension and internal modernisation; first with plasterboards and then skimming over with plaster. We also installed floor screeds, which meant that the walls prepped and ready for painting.
The extension was rendered to the existing house and we installed a new kitchen as well as carried out all the finishing works.
From the images below, you’ll be able to see how this project fully transformed the property into something truly spectacular and perfect for this client.
